The Pinnacles and Lobster Shack

The Pinnacles are beautiful, but eerie limestone formations within the Nambung National Park which is situated close to the town of Cervantes, Western Australia.

The Pinnacles, Cervantes, WA

The park is roughly 200 kilometres north of Perth city and covers an area of 17,487 hectares which provides a natural habitat for native animals and wildlife.

These amazing natural limestone structures which are called The Pinnacles some which stand as high as five metres were formed some 25,000 to 30,000 years ago when the sea receded and left big deposits of seashells. Over time the coastal winds eroded away the surrounding sand, leaving these pillars exposed to the elements.

Eerie but beautiful the Pinnacles WA

Local folklore, however, tells stories of the mysterious disappearances of local aboriginal boys and at sundown, The Pinnacles do take on an eerie feel and those fingers turn the most amazing hue of reddish golds.

You get that feeling come over you which makes you wonder… Is it true??? Is it nature at its beautiful best or is there a spookier explanation???

With the high winds in the area and the changing of the scenery here over time it makes one wonder will they be here in a 100  years time or will they disappear as if they had never existed???

We were awed by the sight of these awesome rock formations and so pleased we took the trip out but make sure you take plenty of water as you cannot buy it here…

No little shops just the awesome Pinnacles.

After our tour of The Pinnacles, we carried on to The Lobster Shack for some very welcome delicious fresh lobster…

The Lobster Shack can be found at number 4 Madrid Street in Cervantes.

The Lobster Shack, Cervantes, Wa

Locally known as Crayfish the Western Rock Lobster fishery extends from Shark Bay in the north to Cape Leeuwin in the south and comprises of three separate zones.

A lobster can live for more than 20 years and can weigh as much as 5 kg, although fishing rules mean fisherman rarely catch them heavier than 3 kg. There is no difference between Western Rock Lobster and the crayfish. Western Rock lobster is the name of the species and Crayfish is the term that the Ozzie uses.

The Lobster shack offers tours of the factory and boat tours we had our delicious lobster meal there and took a couple back home with us… The choice is yours.

There is also a gift shop where you can buy t/shirts and other souvenirs.

We really enjoyed our time and travels around Western Australia it is a lovely state and we can’t wait to return to explore some more…

Enjoying life in The Land Of Smiles I am having so much fun researching, finding new, authentic recipes both Thai and International to share with you. New recipes gleaned from those who I have met on my travels or are just passing through and stopped for a while. I hope you enjoy them. I love shopping at the local markets, finding fresh, natural ingredients, new strange fruits and vegetables ones I have never seen or cooked with. I am generally the only European person and attract much attention and I love to try what I am offered and when I smile and say Aroy or Saab as it is here in the north I am met with much smiling. Some of my recipes may not be in line with traditional ingredients and methods of cooking but are recipes I know and have become to love and maybe if you dare to try you will too. You will always get more than just a recipe from me as I love to research and find out what other properties the ingredients I use have to improve our health and wellbeing. I will be showing you cooking pots and dishes used here and local traditionst hat I discover on my travel and interesting places to visit. I am having a wonderful ride and don’t want to get off, so if you wish to follow me on my adventures, then welcome! I hope you enjoy the ride also and if it encourages you to take a step into the unknown or untried, you know you want to.......Then, I will be happy!
